The head of the Association of Banks of Russia (ADB), Georgy Luntovsky, died at the age of 74, reported TASS Chairman of the Association Council, Head of the State Duma Committee on the Financial Market Anatoly Aksakov.

“I express my deepest condolences to family and friends. Georgy Ivanovich is a wonderful person. He did a lot for the development of the banking system,” said Mr. Aksakov.

Mr. Luntovsky was born on April 12, 1950 in Kursk. In 1978, he graduated from the All-Union Correspondence Institute of Finance and Economics (now the Financial University under the Government). He is a candidate of economic sciences.

From 1996 to 1999, Mr. Luntovsky was a State Duma deputy from the “Our Home is Russia” faction, and was a member of the Committee on Budget, Taxes, Banking and Finance. In 1999, he took the position of Deputy Chairman of the Central Bank. In 2005, he became the first deputy chairman of the Central Bank. He left his position in 2017, after which he became the head of the Rossiya association of regional banks.
