The head of “Moldovagaz” was surprised by the results of the audit of the debt to “Gazprom”

Chairman of the Board of Moldovagaz Vadim Cheban expressed bewilderment due to the results of the audit of the company’s debt to Gazprom, conducted by the Moldovan government.

“Preliminarily, the publicly announced figure of $8.6 million is puzzling, while only the total amount of the historical and current debt of JSC “Thermoelectrica” and JSC “CHP-Nord” to JSC “Moldovagaz” for natural gas supplies is $46 million,” – he wrote in his Telegram channel.

The company’s detailed position will be published later, Cheban added.

In the fall of 2022, Gazprom reported that the debt of Moldovagaz for the supplied gas was $433 million, and taking into account late payments, $709 million. The Moldovan government decided to conduct an independent audit to clarify this figure. On September 6, the Ministry of Energy of the republic reported that the government of the republic, based on the results of the audit, considers it expedient to pay only $8.6 million out of the total debt of $709 million and proposes that Gazprom write off the rest of the amount. Why such an amount is proposed for payment, the department did not explain.

“Gazprom“He expressed his categorical disagreement with this step of Moldova, emphasizing that he intends to defend his rights “by all possible means.” The Russian holding also recalled that the presence of debt is confirmed in the documents regularly signed by Gazprom and Moldovagaz and the relevant decisions of international arbitration.

Moldovagaz was established in 1999. Gazprom owns 50% of the company’s shares, 35.33% – the government of Moldova, 13.44% – the Transnistrian property management committee, the remaining 1.23% – minority shareholders.
