The government expects an increase in cargo transportation along the Northern Sea Route (Sevmorput, NSR) in 2022 compared to the initial forecast, and already in 2023 the indicator will resume progressive growth. Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin spoke about this on November 15, speaking at the Transport of Russia forum. This year, 25 million tons of cargo have already been transported along the NSR, he specified.
The head of government called the development of the NSR one of the key priorities of the state, and also recalled the need to achieve the target of transportation of 80 million tons of cargo by 2024. He did not specify what kind of cargo is planned to increase the volume of traffic in 2023. Mishustin also did not provide specific figures for the expected cargo traffic in 2022.
