The Russian government has allowed foreign ships to enter the port of Tiksi, located on the coast of the Laptev Sea in northern Yakutia. The decree to this effect was signed by Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin, informs cabinet press office.
“The decision made will create conditions for launching an investment project for the construction of a deep-sea port-hub near the village of Naiba,” the government explained.
According to the Cabinet of Ministers, the cargo turnover can be about 30 million tons per year. They added that the implementation of the project will contribute to the creation of new transshipment facilities, the creation of jobs and the development of the Northern Sea Route, which is “especially important in the face of external sanctions pressure.”
In August 2022 Mishustin approved plan for the development of the Northern Sea Route until 2035. In total, the plan includes 150 measures, 1.8 trillion rubles have been allocated for its implementation. In particular, it is planned to build bunkering and maintenance bases in the ports of Tiksi and Dikson, follows from the document.
