The presentation of the special award of the Golden Mask festival “For contribution to the development of theatrical art” is postponed to an undetermined date due to the terrorist attack in Crocus City Hall, the press service of the Union of Theater Workers of Russia reported. The award ceremony for the special prize winners was to take place in the Beethoven Hall of the Bolshoi Theater on March 27.
“In connection with the tragedy at Crocus City Hall, it was decided to postpone the Golden Mask special award “For contribution to the development of theatrical art.” The date of the event will be announced additionally,” says a statement from the Union of Theater Workers, as cited by TASS.
The Union of Theater Workers established the Golden Mask Award in 1993. It is awarded for the best work of the season in all types of theatrical art: from drama to puppet theater. Among the non-competitive Golden Mask awards, in addition to “For contribution to the development of theatrical art,” are “For support of the theatrical art of Russia,” “Best foreign performance shown in Russia,” as well as “Jury Prize” and “Theater Journalists and Critics Award.” ”
The terrorist attack in Crocus City Hall occurred on the evening of March 22. A group of men opened fire at Crocus City Hall and then started a fire. On March 23, the FSB announced the detention of 11 suspects, including four alleged terrorists. They arrested.
