The Gogol Theater announced plans for the new season: Dostoevsky, Gorin and Gogol himself

The first premiere – “Uncle’s Dream” – will take place literally tomorrow

The Moscow Gogol Theater opened its 99th season. But, in fact, this is the second season after the theater was reformatted by the current artistic director Anton Yakovlev. With his arrival, the repertoire and the audience have been completely updated here. Anton Yurievich began his speech, as expected, from the last season.

Namely: there were three premieres on the Small Stage – “A Midsummer Night’s Dream”, “The Picture of Dorian Gray”, “Resurrection”, and on the Main – “Thunderstorm. Temptation”, again directed by Yakovlev himself. By the way, “Moskovsky Komsomolets” noted his theatrical prize for his “A Midsummer Night’s Dream”. And the best female role in the category “Beginners” was recognized by Lyubov Konstantinova, who played the role of Katerina.

Yakovlev, as always, was concise and constructive, announcing the list of future premieres. The first one will take place literally tomorrow – “Uncle’s Dream” based on the novel by F.M. Dostoevsky, staged by Alexander Marin. Starring Alena Yakovleva and Alexander Semchev. I must say that the latter increasingly began to play on the side than in his native Moscow Art Theater. So we will not be at all surprised to learn that Alexander Lvovich will be in the troupe of some other theater.

In December, the artistic director promises to release the premiere of “Players. Illusion” based on the play by N.V. Gogol just in time for the 215th anniversary of the writer (it will be celebrated in April next year). And, in fact, this can be considered the start of anniversary events in honor of the great writer. The theater does not intend to limit itself to productions of performances. A joint laboratory of Gogol and GITIS students is being prepared – “Gogol. 215″. Within the framework of the project, sketches of the performance based on one of the works included in the cycle “Petersburg Tales” will be created. Interestingly, the laboratory will also be supported by the composer Andrey Zubets, with whom the theater cooperates and who is associated with the Gnessin College. It will provide a bank of college student essays that directors can use in their sketches. The director – the winner of the laboratory will have the opportunity to implement his project on the Small Stage of the Gogol Theater.

The small stage will continue to actively work with small forms. “Ghosts of Mars” based on the works of Ray Bradbury (dir. Kirill Kovbas) is expected here, after which Shukshin will no longer be in a ghostly form – his stories will be staged by Sergey Vinogradov.

At the end of December, Gogol will remember the history of the theater – the immersive walker Road Stories is dedicated to it. Thus, Yakovlev emphasizes that the history of the theater did not begin with him, his beloved, and he will remember everyone by name. I wonder if there will be a page related to the activities of their predecessor, the Gogol Center?

In the new season, such directors as Alexander Koruchekov, Sergei Zhenovach’s student Sergei Tonyshev, and Konstantin Mishin will transfer his performance “The Picture of Dorian Gray” from Malaya to the Main Stage – it is so popular with the public.

Artistic director Yakovlev has big plans: among his future premieres (but no specific dates) are Baron Munchausen based on the script by Gorin, Fatalist based on M.Yu. Lermontov’s novel A Hero of Our Time, and a production based on the novel by F.M. “Crime and Punishment” under the title “Svidrigailov”.

Towards the end of the gathering, Yakovlev introduced new artists to the troupe. The troupe included the well-known theater and film actress Irina Grineva, as well as Vasily Neverov, who worked for several years not without success in the Tabakerka, and GITIS graduate Alexander Gruzdev. The troupe also officially included graduates of the Shchukin School Victoria Kizko and Denis Lukin, who, as students, made their debut on the stage of the Gogol Theater last season.
