The German supplier of industrial software SAP will stop support of partners and clients in the Russian Federation

As it became known to “Kommersant”, the German supplier of industrial software SAP notified partners and customers about the termination of support for their solutions in Russia. The developer’s clients have already begun transferring technical support for their systems to local IT companies. One of them may be “Lab SP”, founded by former employees of SAP. However, a complete replacement of SAP is not yet possible, experts believe, the company’s solutions are responsible for the operation of the basic systems of enterprises, and there are no full-fledged analogues.
“Kommersant” got acquainted with the letter of the German developer of resource management systems for SAP organizations to Russian partners that until December 31, 2023 the company will disconnect them from supporting its software. Only the use of cloud services remains valid until the end of the full term of the contracts.
Since September 4, about 100 customers who continue to use the support of SAP systems have received the same letters, a source familiar with the situation clarifies.
SAP officially announced its withdrawal from the Russian and Belarusian markets back in March 2022. In June, he announced the restructuring of offices and the transfer of employees to the CIS countries: Armenia, Azerbaijan, Georgia, Kazakhstan and others. However, the company retained the support of existing customers.
As of the beginning of 2022, SAP was one of the largest suppliers of industrial specialized software in the Russian market with a share of up to 60%. The revenue of SAP CIS LLC, according to the latest published financial statements for 2020, amounted to 35.8 billion rubles.
In December 2022, former employees of the Russian office of SAP established Lab SP LLC, which supports SAP products and also develops its own software.
According to SPARK Interfax, Lab SP LLC is 100% owned by Koshelev Vladimir Alekseevich. The revenue of LLC for the last quarter of 2022 amounted to 1.1 million rubles, and the net profit was 930 thousand rubles.
“We are fully prepared to support Russian clients,” Pavel Deverilin, general director of Lab SP, told Kommersant. According to him, the company is organized from employees who “have been supporting SAP products for decades.” Mr. Deverilin emphasized that now “tens of Russian clients with SAP systems” are cooperating with Lab SP. He did not reveal the names.
One of the largest SAP clients in Russia was JSC Russian Railways, they also used IBM and Oracle solutions, which also left the Russian Federation. By the end of 2022, Russian Railways has developed a plan to replace unavailable solutions for 6.4 billion rubles. The most expensive project was estimated at 1.84 billion rubles. and provided for the development of a new version of the ticketing system for the ACS “Express” by 2024 (see “Kommersant” dated December 1, 2022).
JSC RZD “Kommersant” said that now they do not use SAP support, “all technical support is provided by domestic organizations.”
SAP is the world leader in the supply of enterprise management systems (ERP), notes the president of the Russoft association, Valentin Makarov. According to him, transferring the management of an organization from German software to Russian is a feasible, but difficult task.
Among the options, Mr. Makarov named 1C and the developments of the Lanit company.
According to Sergey Andrianovsky, director of the competence center for enterprise management of the T1 holding, immediately after the decision of SAP CIS LLC to leave the Russian Federation, the demand from medium and large businesses for advanced technical support services for SAP solutions and system localization increased in the market. He expects demand to continue and even grow over the next three years.
SAP solutions, as a rule, are used as central systems that provide the basic processes of an enterprise, emphasizes the interlocutor of Kommersant in the IT market. “The key risk of switching from them is actually a complete stoppage of work. At the same time, there is no full-fledged analogue of SAP in Russia yet, ”he notes.
