The General Director of Russian Post commented on Matvienko’s words about the financial hole

General Director of Russian Post Mikhail Volkov, in response to the words of Federation Council Chairman Valentina Matvienko about the financial hole in the company, said that in six months the organization had reduced its operating loss by almost three times, but the situation “remains tense.”

“At the beginning of the year, the company’s financial situation was extremely difficult. In six months, we managed to change the trend – reduce the loss from operating activities by almost three times, open many temporarily closed branches, and bring people back. But the situation remains very tense,” the company’s press service quotes Mr. Volkov, reports TASS.

He explained that about 27 thousand branches are located in rural and remote areas. Most of them have negative margins; they have an exclusively social mission. “People need them, the state needs them, but their maintenance requires systemic support,” explained the general director.

At a meeting of the Federation Council on September 25, Speaker of the Chamber Valentina Matvienko stated, that Russian Post has a growing financial hole and “the situation urgently needs to be corrected.” Ms. Matvienko said that the Federation Council intends to send an appeal to the government to resolve this issue. She wondered whether there were “other processes” going on at Russian Post that “need to be corrected with the participation of law enforcement agencies or others.”
