Kazakhstani Bereke Bank (former name – Texakabank, the former “daughter” of Sberbank) informed on the resumption of work with the international payment system Mastercard. This happened five months after the US Treasury lifted restrictions from the bank.
Bereke Bank said that full-fledged work with Mastercard was restored in three months. As Rafal Trepka, General Director of Mastercard in Central Asia, noted, Bereke Bank “did the necessary steps in the shortest possible time to start issuing Mastercard cards under the new brand.” Andrey Timchenko, the chairman of the board of the bank, assured that the organization “is heading for the full restoration of operating activities.”
Bereke Bank was purchased from Sberbank by local holding Baiterek in September 2022. The new owner of the credit institution submitted a request to the US Treasury to lift sanctions, explaining that it was no longer controlled by the Russian bank.
