The flow of tourists from Germany and France to the UK has fallen significantly after Brexit

It is significant that in 2016, according to tourists from Germany, the UK was in 7th place among countries they would like to visit, and according to French tourists – in 9th place. In 2022, the UK dropped to 16th and 14th respectively. The number of bookings this year from groups of tourists from Germany and France, according to Experience Oxfordshire, is 50% of what it was before the pandemic. And a study last year by the Tourism Alliance found that the number of schoolchildren and students visiting the UK had fallen by 83%, with £875m of lost revenue and job cuts in the UK tourism industry.
One of the main reasons for such a reduction in the tourist flow, experts call “Brexit” and the need to issue passports to enter the UK, while before it was enough only an identity card (ID card). According to The Guardian, only a third of the population of Germany and half of the French have such a passport, so not everyone is ready to mess with its registration for a trip to the UK, and then pay £95 for an entry visa.
