The Flash is a comic book adaptation of DC’s fastest superhero, Barry Allen, aka The Flash. The premiere of the first season took place back in 2014, at the moment there are already 8 seasons and the ninth is being prepared for release, in total the show will have 185 episodes.

The story of the first season largely repeats the events from the comics, albeit with minor changes. While still a young boy, Barry witnesses the murder of his mother at the hands of an unknown perpetrator with the same acceleration ability as his future self. In the absence of other suspects in the crime, Allen’s father is accused and sentenced to a virtual life sentence. To restore justice for him, the young hero decides to become a criminalist and independently get to the bottom of the truth about the murder of his mother. The fast killer’s trail leads him to the particle accelerator of scientist Harrison Wells. But an explosion suddenly occurs at the facility, during which Allen is struck by lightning, and he falls into a coma. After 9 months of unconsciousness, the hero finally wakes up and learns that from the explosion of the accelerator in the whole city, people received superpowers, and he discovers the ability to move at superhuman speeds in himself. He decides to put on a hero costume and deal with the supervillains that have flooded the city.

The last eighth season of the series ends with a fight with one of the main villains of the entire show, Eobard Thawne, also known as the Reverse Flash. Eobard has at his disposal even more speed power than the Flash, and is about to arrange an Armageddon. He almost succeeds in carrying out his plan, but at the last moment Barry rewinds time (one of his abilities in the comics), and Thawne simply disappears from space and time.

The ninth season, most likely, will be devoted to the fight against the next, the same as Eobard, a high-speed supervillain from the future. Cobalt Blue, one of the Flash’s canon enemies, is also rumored to appear in the series. Series creator Eric Wallace promises a powerful ending:

“Now Barry Allen has made it to the starting line for his last race. We are getting ready to pay tribute to the incredible show with our exciting final chapter.”

Actors of The Flash

Initially, the show could not boast of a large budget, so the cast, which was transferred from the first episodes to the rest of the series, is rather modest here. The fastest hero of the Flash was embodied on the screen by Grant Gustin. Many viewers could see him, for example, in the movie Ruby the Rescue Dog.

The role of Eobrad Thawne was played by Thomas Cavanagh, who is probably remembered by many as the brother of John Dorian from the series “Clinic”. You can see Candice Patton, Danielle Panabaker, and even Mark Hamill himself in supporting roles on the show.

DC secretly created their own MCU

It’s no secret that DC hasn’t been able to properly build its own MCU like the one Marvel has for a long time. Even now, it cannot be said that they have fully succeeded: on the one hand, many characters have already been assigned to individual actors (for example, Jason Momoa and Ben Affleck), on the other hand, projects are constantly canceled, restarted, rewired, that is, it is clearly seen lack of a single creative concept in development.

However, in their television series, the opposite situation is observed, because a very large and diverse universe has already formed here, of which the Flash is a part. At the moment, this universe includes the series Arrow, The Flash, Vixen, Legends of Tomorrow, Freedom Fighters and Batwoman. It was Arrow that served as the basis for the universe, after which other shows began to work out the stories of individual characters. Finally, they all met and teamed up in crossover series that appeared in several of the series listed. For example, the same Flash teamed up with Green Arrow to fight Thawne.

It’s amazing that DC managed to create its own universe almost in secret. Of course, the existence of these series and the connection between them was never hidden, but the very fact that the studio had a franchise comparable to Marvel was never much circulated.

Perhaps DC’s refusal to continue working on this universe was the reason for the closure of the series. The studio clearly wants to intensify its work in the direction of large blockbusters, which, as already mentioned, have not yet come out too well, and only then develop series on this basis. For example, with Marvel, all the series have recently become tied to the cinematic universe, their events and acting characters have repeatedly intersected. Against this background, the DC approach looks, though more original, but poorer. Their shows are much longer in terms of timing, but much smaller in terms of actors and scale. This is also supported by the fact that, along with The Flash, the company also canceled the film Batgirl, which was supposed to become part of the same universe.

Fan Reviews for The Flash Season 8

Another reason for the end of the series could be the low ratings of the last season of the series. While the show’s viewership is still at a pretty high level, reviews and comments about the latest season of The Flash have been pretty depressing. The ratings of the last two episodes were generally lower than the rest of the season.

According to the viewers, the plot turned into some kind of confusion about the universal gods of speed, dark and light power, and so on. The special effects, on the contrary, have become much worse, despite the increased scale. And the action is staged very, very poorly, as if the creators are afraid to take on scenes of a larger epic scope. Thus, those same showdowns of the galactic forces of good and evil look like fights in the alley.

When is The Flash season 9 coming out?

The premiere of the 9th season will take place in 2023, but the exact date has not yet been announced. Previously, the studio was going to release the season in 2022, but due to the pandemic, the shooting was postponed. The last part of the series will be shortened and consist of only 13 episodes.
