Writer and translator Mark Kharitonov died at the age of 86, the New Literary Review (NLO) publishing house reported. In 1992, for the novel “The Line of Fate, or Milashevich’s Chest,” he became the first winner of the Russian Booker literary prize.
“For many years, Mark Sergeevich wrote down everyday observations and thoughts in shorthand. This way of existence served as the basis for the publication of a book of the same name in UFO back in 1998,” says the message about the writer’s death in Telegram channel.
The preliminary cause of death of the writer, as he writes Telegram channel Shot, there was acute cardiovascular failure. The day before, his body was discovered in the apartment by Mr. Kharitonov’s daughter.
Mark Kharitonov wrote seven novels, four collections of short stories and two collections of poems. He translated the works of Thomas Mann, Stefan Zweig, Franz Kafka, Hermann Hesse and others into Russian. In 1997, the writer also received the French literary prize for best foreign book (Prix du Meilleur Livre tranger).
