This filtering of admissions concerns, at the beginning of August, 25% of the 660 emergency services according to the Ministry of Health, which also counts eight services totally closed.
At the same time, the minister is preparing for a completely different task: finding the remedies to respond to the ills of the entire healthcare system in great suffering, which has come to light again after two years of health crisis. . Medical deserts and access to care, beds closed in hospitals for lack of nurses, maternity hospitals under great tension with vacant midwifery positions… This is the subject of the major health conference promised by candidate Emmanuel Macron during presidential campaign. Estates General with the actors of the sector – whose official name has not yet been defined – which will open in September with a citizen phase, in a digital form and with “great debates” organized by local elected officials.
“Forcing doesn’t work”
“As soon as the President of the Republic announces the “refoundation”, we will start immediatelyassures François Braun, with reference to the “National Refoundation Council”, in which this consultation must be integrated. This will lead us to conclusions at the end of the year. » The assessment of the summer measures for emergencies must be carried out at the end of September to decide on their sustainability and will feed into the debates of the consultation, which will continue by back and forth with the territories. “At the beginning of 2023, we put the complete toolbox on the table and we attack this renovation of the health system”, he foresees.
Although time is running out and there has been no shortage of high masses and reports on the health system in crisis in recent years, it defends its tempo. “Everyone says the diagnosis already exists, but what I want are solutions”emphasizes François Braun, who hopes “transform a system based on the supply of care into a system that starts from the response to health needs”.
