The first power unit of the Akkuyu nuclear power plant in Turkey is planned to be launched next year. This was stated by Russian President Vladimir Putin at a meeting with Turkish leader Recep Tayyip Erdogan.
“Next year, everything goes according to plan, we will launch the first unit. There are interesting possible options for continuing our cooperation here,” Mr. Putin said.
Vladimir Putin added that after the delivery of the first batch of Russian nuclear fuel to Akkuyu, “Turkey in the full sense of the word became a member of the international club of nuclear states.”
Recep Tayyip Erdogan added that Ankara and Moscow are ready to discuss plans for a second nuclear power plant, which may appear in Sinop. About Akkuyu, Mr. Erdogan added that work on the construction of the power plant is “going forward successfully.”
Akkuyu will be the first nuclear power plant in Turkey and will consist of four power units, each with a capacity of 1.2 thousand MW.
