Sukhoi Superjet New (SSJ-NEW) will soon make its first flight powered by Franco-Russian SaM146 engines. In “Rostec” explained the use of foreign components “by accelerating the test program.” The second prototype will start testing with domestic PD-8 engines.
“We have reached the finish line of preparing the SSJ-NEW for its first test flight. Specialists of our enterprises have done a lot of work on import substitution of all foreign aircraft systems for Russian ones. The car received a domestic control system, avionics, chassis, hydraulic system, air conditioning system and much more. The first flight will take place in the near future, after checking the equipment on the ground,” said Vladimir Artyakov, First Deputy General Director of Rostec.
According to Mr. Artyakov, checks are carried out in order to ensure the necessary safety of passengers. “We understand how important this aircraft is for our country, and therefore we are doing everything possible to put it into serial production as quickly as possible,” he added.
Andrey Boginsky, CEO of the Irkut Corporation, which manufactures the SSJ-NEW, clarified that they plan to begin factory development tests of the aircraft within a few weeks. After that, Rosaviatsia specialists will conduct certification tests, following which the imported systems must be approved for use on board the SSJ-NEW.
In May, Kommersant found out: the Irkut company and the United Engine Corporation (UEC; both are part of Rostec) calculated that by the end of 2030 only 28 SSJ 100 aircraft would remain in operation due to the exhaustion of the service life of the Russian-made aircraft installed on them. The French Safran was responsible for the maintenance, design and manufacture of parts for the hot part of the SaM-146, which in March 2022 stopped its cooperation with the UEC PowerJet.
