The Federation Council proposed to freeze the assets of billionaires who left Russia

Andrey Kutepov, head of the Federation Council Committee on Economic Policy, proposed to freeze the assets of large businessmen and heads of state corporations in Russia who left the country after the start of the military operation in Ukraine. He outlined his idea in a letter to be sent to Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Grigorenko.

In a letter available TASSit is said that against the backdrop of how Western countries are seizing the assets of Russian billionaires, it is worth applying similar measures to persons who left Russia after February 24, as well as persons who have renounced Russian citizenship.

The senator urged to consider the issue of receiving dividends and other payments due to entrepreneurs who left the country to a target account to finance the military operation.

According to Mr. Kutepov, income from the management of property and assets of the leaders of unprofitable development institutions or state corporations who left their homeland should go to the budget in a targeted manner to cover the losses of these organizations.

“Under the current conditions, a balanced decision will be made on the additional tax assessment on transactions made with property, shares, securities after February 24. The rate can be 30-50% of the transaction amount,” the letter says.

Andrey Kutepov also proposed to direct the funds of foreign investors from unfriendly states frozen in Russia to repair the Crimean bridge, roads and utility infrastructure in the special operation zone.

On renunciation of Russian citizenship in October declared entrepreneur Oleg Tinkov. Earlier, the founder of Revolut Nikolay Storonsky, the founder of DST Global funds Yuri Milner, the founder of Troika Dialog Ruben Vardanyan and the founder of Freedom Finance Timur Turlov decided to refuse the Russian passport.
