In 2023, the Federal Customs Service (FCS) stopped the smuggling of precious metals and jewelry worth 1.2 billion rubles. A year earlier, such goods were identified for 760 million rubles.
“About 65% of violations occurred at the airports of the Moscow air hub. Most often, attempts were made to import undeclared jewelry from the UAE, Turkey, China and Azerbaijan, and export it to China, the USA, Mongolia and Israel,” the customs service reported in Telegram channel.
The Federal Customs Service clarified that most often people tried to illegally transport gold, silver, platinum, and metallized sand across the border. Among the products, the service named branded watches, rings, earrings, pendants and bracelets from famous jewelry houses.
On the fact of smuggling, as stated in the message, 33 criminal cases have been opened against 18 in 2022. The number of administrative cases was 522 compared to 345 a year earlier.
