Yandex placed advertisements for dietary supplements (BAA) inappropriately. To this conclusion came Department of the Federal Antimonopoly Service (UFAS) for St. Petersburg. In connection with the recognition of advertising as improper, Yandex issued an order.
In Russia, many dietary supplements are advertised as medicines. However, by law, such advertisements must be accompanied by a warning that they are not a drug. There was no corresponding warning in Yandex advertising, informs OFAS.
“According to the rules, Yandex undertook to independently include a warning in advertising publications. Meanwhile, there was no such warning in the advertisement,” the ministry said in a statement. July 31 department reported about filing a case against the company after a complaint about inappropriate advertising of dietary supplements.
After considering the case, the OFAS concluded that Yandex had violated the law on advertising. The company faces a fine under Article 14.3 of the Code of Administrative Offenses of the Russian Federation. The amount of the fine for the lack of labeling of advertising for legal entities ranges from 100 thousand to 500 thousand rubles.
Allegations of inappropriate advertising of dietary supplements came from “ordinary citizens”, previously clarified in the press service of the OFAS, their names are not subject to disclosure. Edifarm LLC was named as one of the advertisers in the complaints, and Pharma-Print LLC was named as the other.
