The Far East did not have enough electricity for export

Extreme heat in Russia and rising electricity consumption have forced energy companies to limit the export of electricity to China from the Far East. This was announced on August 10 by the press service of the Ministry of Energy, citing a statement by Minister Nikolai Shulginov. It was made following the results of the meeting on the work of the Unified Energy System (UES) of Russia.

According to the agency, at the beginning of August, Russia recorded “a number of highs” in power consumption. They were observed in the unified power systems (IPS) of the North-West, the Middle Volga, the South and in several territorial power systems. In the European part of Russia, a new summer consumption record was reached – 132 GW, which is 5.7 GW more than the previous maximum in 2022 (the winter record of January 10, 2023 is significantly higher – 163.52 GW). As of January 1, 2023, the total installed capacity of power plants of the UES of Russia, according to the “System Operator” (energy system manager), amounted to 247.6 GW.
