Restorers found a sketch
A previously unknown sketch for the famous painting “Mother” was discovered at the Victory Museum. 1941” by Honored Artist of the Russian Federation Nikolai Terentyevich Tuzhilin.
As MK managed to find out, the Victory Museum carried out a restoration of the painting “Mother. 1941.” During the work, an interesting fact emerged – specialists from the museum’s restoration workshop discovered a sketch for the canvas. When removing the hardboard sheet protecting the author’s canvas from the back of the painting, it turned out that this sheet was a full-size sketch for this painting. Thus, the collections of the Victory Museum now contain two works by the artist, reflecting the creative process and allowing one to compare the author’s intention and the result.
The image in the painting by Nikolai Tuzhilin is a collective image of a mother during the war. The painter depicted a young woman with a child in her arms against the backdrop of a military landscape opening from the window. There is sadness and hope in her eyes.
This painting measuring 70 by 62 cm was painted by the artist in 1971. The exhibit was received by the Victory Museum in 2001 from the exhibition directorate of the Union of Artists of Russia. The painting was exhibited this year as part of the Lost Childhood exhibition.
