An investigation into the malfunction of the .ru domain zone did not reveal signs of external interference. The head of the Ministry of Digital Development, Maksut Shadayev, told reporters about this.

“The investigation showed that there was a purely technical problem, no traces of external interference were found,” the minister said, without giving details (quoted by Interfax).

The failure occurred on January 30th. Sites hosted on .ru domains were inaccessible to users in Russia and the world due to incorrect DNSSEC settings. The problem, according to Kommersant, occurred due to the actions of the zone administrator, the Coordination Center for .RU/.РФ domains or its contractors.
