The European Broadcasting Union has changed the voting rules for Eurovision

Residents of countries whose representatives do not participate in the contest will be able to take part in the voting of the international Eurovision Song Contest 2023. Jury members will be able to join the voting only in the final stage of Eurovision, follows from the rules of the competition updated by the European Broadcasting Union (EBU). Changes to the voting system were made due to violations identified last year.
“Due to the unprecedented nature of the voting irregularities seen in the 2022 contest, a working group of EBU members has been set up to consider ways to protect voting integrity. The recommendations were then approved by the reference group, the Governing Board of the Competition and the EBU Executive Board. message.
In accordance with the new regulations, Eurovision jury members will be able to vote only in the final stage of the competition. For the first time since 2009, the audience will decide which 20 countries should advance to the final.
In addition, residents of any country will be able to vote through a paid online platform, regardless of whether a representative of that country participates in the contest.
15 May European Broadcasting Union declaredthat in the results of six countries during the second dress rehearsal of the second semi-final “certain incorrect voting patterns” were revealed. For this reason, in the second semi-final and in the final of the competition, held on May 12 and 14, respectively, the voting results of the national juries from Azerbaijan, Georgia, Poland, Romania, San Marino and Montenegro were annulled and replaced by the results of the voting of the jury of other countries compiled by the aggregate voting results.
At Eurovision 2022 won Ukrainian group Kalush Orchestra. By decision of the EBU, Russia did not participate in the competition.
According to the rules of Eurovision, the next contest was supposed to take place on the territory of the winning country, but on June 17, the EBU I decided, the competition will not be held in Ukraine due to security reasons. Eurovision 2023 will be held in the UK.
