Passions around streaming, apparently, will not subside for a long time. Everyone involved in the process of creating TV shows, movies and music is trying to figure out what can be offered to the public without violating the new laws. The process of understanding is increasingly reminiscent of comedy.
Large Internet broadcasting sites have recently been regularly fined for violating LGBT propaganda laws. And a total misunderstanding about what can be considered such propaganda sometimes leads to some kind of feuilleton plots. It turns out that in the films about Bridget Jones this propaganda is worth millions of fines.
The first film of the film franchise was released 22 years ago, and all this time, many could believe that it was, maybe not a very family, but generally completely harmless comedy. Rene Zellweger, Hugh Grant, Colin Firth, English humor, a bit of eccentricity, it would seem, what’s wrong? But now these films need to be scrutinized as potentially harmful.
TV shows are even more fun. Some scenes, and sometimes storylines, which are also seen as propaganda, are mercilessly cut, dubbed not quite according to the original text, in general, they are brought into line with the norms of the new Russian ethics. Sometimes this slightly changes the script of the series and definitely does not contribute to the disclosure of some characters, but apparently such trifles cannot be compared with the ideological intention to comply with the new laws and, in accordance with them, make the product safe for the unstable psyche of our public.
On music streaming, a new term has been coined – “comfortable content”. And this already looks like real nonsense, because music, as it was noticed long ago, is still divided into interesting and not very, but not at all comfortable and capable of causing anxiety. I really want to hear how comfortable it sounds, but how it unnerves and brings chaos to life.
Wrong, there is every reason to believe that a new era is rapidly beginning for us in the cultural sphere. It can be called the era of total cultural contraception. Moreover, the new rules of life are formulated not by the humanities, but by middle-class officials and industrial traders. One can only envy here historians, who every day have new material for future dissertations.
However, sometimes there is a holiday for film fans who, by inertia, watch on-air television. Last week, two films directed by Wes Andersen were shown on different channels. “Hotel Budapest” and “French Messenger”. Two mighty manifestos richly saturated with liberal ideas from one of the main film visionaries. A crowd of stars, a breathtaking picture, in general, you can’t take your eyes off.
But in the process of getting movie pleasure, disturbing thoughts are already creeping in. Will they show this again? Isn’t it too beautiful to be comfortable content? Isn’t it too harmful for those who suddenly sit up late at the TV and see such a movie for the first time? And it’s even scary to imagine the mental devastation that an average Russian can go through if he is suddenly shown a documentary about such uncomfortable musicians as, for example, Jim Morrison or Kurt Cobain. There is no need for an antidote here.
