The ECB predicts that the level of gas supplies from Russia to the EU will remain at the current level

The level of Russian gas supplies to the countries of the European Union will remain at the current level, and gas imports from other countries to the EU in 2023 will continue to grow, follows from the forecast data European Central Bank (ECB).
“The baseline scenario for December assumes that Russian gas flows to the European Union will remain at the current level, which is about 14% of their average level in 2017-2021, and non-Russian gas flows (which have already increased by about 20% compared to with their average level before the invasion of Ukraine) will grow even more in 2023 due to additional pipeline and LNG supplies,” the regulator said in a forecast.
Analysts note that due to high gas prices, EU firms and households are reducing fuel consumption. This is in line with the union’s agreement to reduce gas demand by 15%. The forecast does not provide for forced rationing of gas supplies. According to the report, the risk of fuel shortages remains in the EU, especially in the winter of 2023-2024.
If Russia completely cuts off gas supplies and China starts to restore its consumption, the International Energy Agency predicts that EU countries will face a shortage of 57 billion cubic meters of gas in 2023. According to analysts, against this background, competition with Asia for liquefied fuel may intensify in 2023.
