The fall in stock indices is due to statistical data on the state of the US economy released yesterday, September 26. Thus, residential real estate sales in August turned out to be significantly worse than expected. According to the Commerce Department, 675,000 new homes were sold in August, down 8.7% from July. Economists surveyed by Dow Jones expected the figure to be 695 thousand, a drop of 2.7% from July. And the consumer confidence index dropped from 108.7 to 103 points. At the same time, analysts expected this figure to be at 105.5.
Finally, the fall in the NASDAQ Technology Index was largely contributed by the claim US Federal Trade Commission and 17 states to Amazon. The plaintiffs accuse the company of “acting like a monopolist” by preventing competitors and retailers from charging lower prices, resulting in a negative impact on consumers. At the end of the trading day, Amazon shares fell 4%, showing the worst performance among large technology companies listed in the United States.
