The director of the Pushkin State Museum of Fine Arts, Elizaveta Likhacheva, believes that globalization in art is over. In her opinion, no one needs “crazy contemporary art centers” with “incomprehensible things” that respond to global challenges.
“The trend has changed. It has changed in the world: no one anymore needs crazy centers of contemporary art, filled with things that no one understands, responding to global challenges… This is the reality in which we live. Globalization is over,” said Elizaveta Likhacheva at the discussion “Preservation Mode: Museums and Institutions” at the Expo Center.
According to Ms. Likhacheva, in the modern world more attention is paid to private, national and personal stories. In this context, she mentioned an exhibition in Istanbul, where the entire exhibition was dedicated to the national problems of the people of Turkey. This is “strikingly different” from last year’s trends, added Elizaveta Likhacheva.
