The Czech Republic and Slovakia ask to continue supplies of Russian oil – Kommersant

The Czech Republic and Slovakia “cannot exist” without Russian oil and have asked the European Union (EU) to maintain its supplies, says Transneft President Nikolai Tokarev. He explained that both countries have no access to the sea, as well as the ability to obtain oil from other sources.
“Both the Czech Republic and Slovakia appealed to Brussels with a request to maintain these volumes of Russian oil supplies… The Czechs have a little from Trieste through another oil pipeline, but in general they simply cannot exist without our oil,” he clarified on air. December 18 EU approved 12th package of sanctions against Russia. As part of it, an obligation was introduced for companies to inform the European Commission about the sale of tankers that could transport Russian oil at a price higher than the established one. The prime ministers of Slovakia and the Czech Republic, Robert Fico and Petr Fiala, agreed that it was necessary for their countries to extend the exemption from sanctions on the use of Russian oil products for a year.
