The creator of KamAZ Lev Vasilyev died – Kommersant

The creator and first general director of KamAZ, Lev Vasiliev, died at the age of 98. This was reported in Telegram embassy of Tatarstan in Moscow.
According to the report, Mr. Vasilyev “built the auto giant from scratch, created a unique personnel potential of the plant, attracting the best specialists from all over the country to Naberezhnye Chelny.”
Mr. Vasilyev participated in the Great Patriotic War from 1943 to 1944. Since 1949, he was the general director of the Moskvich plant and participated in the creation of its first cars. In 1959 he graduated from the Moscow Automotive Institute. He headed the KamAZ plant from 1969 to 1981. In addition, he headed the Ministry of Mechanical Engineering for Light and Food Industry and Household Appliances of the USSR (1984–1988).
