The court upheld the decision of the Federal Antimonopoly Service to fine MTS and MegaFon for the increase in the cost of services

The Moscow Arbitration Court did not support the claims of MegaFon and MTS, which tried to appeal the fines imposed by the Federal Antimonopoly Service (FAS). We are talking about an unreasonable, according to the FAS, increase in the cost of cellular services for more than 44.5 million subscribers in 2022. Operators justified this increase by increasing their costs, informs FAS.
The agency, however, came to the conclusion that the increase in tariffs in the absence of technological, economic and other justification violates the interests of consumers.
Following an administrative investigation, the operators were fined for violating antitrust laws. The companies tried to appeal against the orders and fines, but the court of first instance upheld the agency’s position.
MTS reported TASSthat the company will decide on further steps after receiving and analyzing the reasoning part of the court decision. Megafon declined to comment.
