The Moscow Arbitration Court satisfied the claim of Gazprombank (GPB) to recover $ 244.2 million from the coal and steel producer Mechel and the Chelyabinsk Metallurgical Plant (ChMK) owned by the company, Interfax reported on July 17, citing a court hearing.
Principal debt in the amount of about $154.8 million and $89.4 million of interest will be collected from the defendants jointly and severally in rubles at the exchange rate of the Central Bank of the Russian Federation on the date of payment. According to Interfax, at a meeting on July 17, it was noted that Mechel PAO acted as a guarantor for the ChMK loan. The borrower had to return the funds before August 2019, but the last payment on the principal debt was received in January 2014.
