On August 16, in Marseille, a 19-year-old young man died after losing control of his heavy-duty engine and hitting a pole while performing a high-speed wheelie. Two days earlier, in Colmar (Haut-Rhin), a 27-year-old Afghan boy died after being shot while protesting against a man’s back and forth on a scooter. The author is still wanted. On the evening of August 5, a 7-year-old girl and an 11-year-old boy who were playing tag on an esplanade in the Hauts de Marcouville district, in Pontoise (Val-d’Oise), were hit and seriously injured. by a biker who fled before reporting to the police station the next day. Aged 18, he was indicted and imprisoned for “involuntary injuries resulting in total incapacity for work for more than three months”. Two months earlier, in Rennes, a young man aged 19 died after being mowed down by an 18-year-old motorcyclist while doing a wheelie with a six-year-old child on the handlebars.
“At least three anti-rodeo operations a day”
Also called “cross bitumen”the urban rodeo “regularly endangers the lives of neighborhood residents and spoils their daily lives”, underlines Gilles Leproust, mayor (PC) of Allonnes (Sarthe) and president of the association of elected officials Town and suburbs. These motorized acrobatics gave rise, between the months of June and July, to 8,000 control operations and 1,200 arrests, 20,000 tickets and 700 seizures of gear, according to Place Beauvau.
In a tweet published on Tuesday August 16, the Minister of the Interior, Gérald Darmanin, drew up the “report of operations carried out” In a week. “In seven days, 2,914 anti-rodeo operations were carried out, 338 arrested, 157 seized. (…) Starting tomorrow, each police station will carry out at least 3 anti-rodeo operations per day. » The day before, in an instruction sent to the prefects, he ordered “proceed with the systematic seizure of the machines used”.
This “instruction” follows the announcement of August 8 promising an intensification of controls throughout France. “I would like there to be 10,000 control operations from today throughout the territory”, declared Mr. Darmanin during a visit to Marseille. Since then, the departmental police and gendarmerie services have followed suit. Seine-et-Marne, Val-d’Oise, Bouches-du-Rhône, Val-d’Oise, Haute-Garonne, Paris… On social networks, they publish the results of their actions.
