“There are very convenient mechanisms for combating pirate screenings: first one fine is small, then the second is large, and then, I’m sure, if this practice continues, then, in principle, the closure of two or three private cinemas, and not only private ones, this There may also be municipal ones, where in fact something like this will happen, it is always very sobering for the industry,” Ms. Lyubimova told RIA Novosti.
The minister noted that Russia “has no unfriendly directors” and foreign producers receive distribution certificates if their films comply with current legislation. According to her, it is important for Moscow that “our spiritual and moral values coincide at this moment.”
Many Western film studios refused to work in Russia after the entry of troops into Ukraine. These include Universal, Warner Bros., Disney, Sony and Paramount. Because of this, the Russian film industry is faced with a reduction in box office receipts in 2022. However, already in 2023, the amount of box office receipts increased by one and a half times compared to 2022. At the same time, the share of Russian cinema was 60%.
