The Central Bank (CB) will launch the digital ruble into circulation after the adoption of relevant laws, Finance Minister Anton Siluanov said. According to him, this will happen before the end of the year.
“The Central Bank has already launched an experiment this year, and by the end of the year, after the adoption of the relevant legislation, it will put the digital ruble into circulation,” he said at the Knowledge marathon (quoted from “RIA News”).
A digital ruble is a unique electronic code (token). Unlike cryptocurrency, it is issued exclusively by the Bank of Russia. It is also secured by gold and foreign exchange reserves and is pegged to the value of the national currency. Digital rubles will be stored in digital wallets on a platform developed by the regulator. Because of this, they will not be tied to a specific bank or electronic wallet.
In March, the State Duma approved the bill on the digital ruble in the first reading. It is expected that it will enter the consumer circulation by 2030. Head of the Central Bank Elvira Nabiullina spokethat transfers in digital rubles will be free for citizens. The amount to replenish the wallet in digital rubles will be 300 thousand rubles. per month.
