The Central Bank softened the rules for the sale of cash currency to the population

The Central Bank (CB) allowed the sale to citizens of dollars and euros received from various sources, and not just those received by cash desks from individuals after April 9. The ban on the sale of currency received “as part of transactions for the sale and purchase of foreign currency banknotes for non-cash foreign currency or non-cash rubles” concluded with Russian banks or the Central Bank has been retained. This is stated in a letter sent to banks by the Central Bank, to which Frank Media.

The Central Bank confirmed the sending of the letter. As specified in the document, the relaxed rules are valid from the beginning of this week until September 9. The representative of the regulator explained that the expansion of the possibility of selling foreign currency applies, in particular, to cases where the bank cash desk received money “from transactions with non-resident banks” or as a result of crediting foreign currency from companies “on the grounds provided for by foreign exchange legislation.”

In early March, the Central Bank tightened control over the circulation of cash currency in Russia against the backdrop of Western sanctions. Until September 9, citizens can buy US dollars and euros in cash, but only those that have been received at bank cash desks since April 9.
