Vedomosti read the report of the World Nuclear Association (WNA), which provides forecasts for the development of nuclear energy in the 21st century. The optimistic scenario assumes an increase in the capacity of nuclear power plants to 931 GW by 2040, the base scenario – up to 686 GW, and the pessimistic scenario – up to 486 GW.
The installed capacity of all nuclear power plants in the world at the end of June 2023, according to WNA, was 391 GW, or 437 nuclear power units, which cover approximately one tenth of humanity’s electricity needs. Blocks for another 64 GW were built.
