The book “The Boy’s Word” burst into the top sales over the past month. The demand for Robert Garayev’s research, on which the series of the same name was based, has increased 70 times. Now, as Kommersant FM was told by Liters, the book accounts for 65% of all sales of the service. The work is dedicated to youth groups in Tatarstan, which went down in history as the “Kazan phenomenon.”

Against this background, publishers are rushing to release an audio version, said Daria Malkova, head of the press service of the Liters group of companies: “Interest in Robert Garayev’s book is now really very high. In December, based on the results of the first 11 days, it already ranks first, ahead of other works, including new releases and bestsellers.

In just one day, 12 times more books are sold than were sold in one month of sales in 2022. Currently there is only a text option. And the copyright holders plan to release, of course, an audio version in the near future.

Have sales of other books on similar topics increased? No, but there is a certain interest in the book of Asgat Safarov, the former head of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Tatarstan, and now he holds the position of chief of staff of the head of the Republic of Tatarstan. The book is called “The Decline of the Kazan Phenomenon.” And just its sales increased 14 times over the last month, compared to the previous similar period.”

Garayev’s book was published three years ago in a circulation of 2 thousand copies. Now all printed versions have been sold out, Kommersant FM was told by the Eksmo-AST publishing group, which owns the rights to this work. Now the company promises an additional circulation of 16 thousand copies within a week. At the beginning of 2024, another 10 thousand books will go on sale. The series “The Boy’s Word” has aroused interest in other works of criminal themes, says Evgeny Kapiev, general director of the Eksmo-AST publishing group:

“Before the release of the series, books on this topic were practically not sold. That is, there were very small circulations. And now the re-release of some of the works has been urgently approved. I think that books on this topic will be published within a month. This is fiction about the 90s, tentatively titled “Real Boys.” The author is a famous writer working in the detective genre. There is no romance there, some kind of illustration of how it was.

Is there this romance in “The Boy’s Word”? The peculiarity of this book is that it is documentary, based on the memoirs of the author, journalist Robert Garayev. It is built entirely on his memories, real situations that he himself remembers. And the series is a fictional story, there are collective images, in addition to the book, as far as I know, they used some additional materials.

But we don’t even see from the reviews that readers are disappointed. That is, even before the series, in principle, it sold quite well – 100-200 copies per month – we sold three editions, these are quite good numbers for this genre.”

The series “The Boy’s Word” has already become scandalous in Russia. The Tatarstan authorities said that “such films do not lead to anything good” and called for a response to the appearance of the work. Roskomnadzor, however, did not find any violations based on the results of the inspection.

The season has not yet been fully released. On the evening of December 12, Telegram channels reported the leak of two supposedly re-shot final episodes of the series. The recordings show chromakey and notes for the editor over the frame. They should officially be released on streaming on December 14 and 21.
