General Director of the Bolshoi Theater Vladimir Urin said that the Bolshoi Theater indeed ceases cooperation with, for example, directors who oppose the special operation in Ukraine.

In an interview with Rossiyskaya Gazeta, Urin stated, that performances can be removed from the repertoire for two reasons. The first is, for example, the expiration of the performance’s license. The second is truly political. Urin admitted that “when certain creators of performances spoke very definitely about the special operation,” then “their names disappeared from the posters.”

“This was also the reason for the removal of certain performances from the repertoire,” confirmed the general director.

In 2022, the name of director Kirill Serebrennikov disappeared from the posters of the Bolshoi Theater, later the Bolshoi Theater refused to show his ballet “Nureyev”, as well as the opera “Don Pasquale” staged by Timofey Kulyabin.

According to Urin, the theater is now experiencing difficulties in attracting foreign specialists, for example, choreographers. At the same time, he added that among Western professionals there are still those who want to come to Moscow, but “sometimes they ask that their names not be made public until the very last moment.”
