The Berlin State Opera is resuming cooperation with the Russian singer Anna Netrebko from September. This is reported on site cultural institutions.

The statement states that since the beginning of the conflict in Ukraine, the management of the opera has had diverse discussions with Anna Netrebko. At the beginning of March 2022, an agreement was reached on her participation in the production of “Turandot” in June 2022 and future projects.

The opera administration noted that in March 2022, Anna Netrebko publicly condemned Russia’s actions in Ukraine. She stated that she is not a member of any political party, does not receive any financial support from the Russian government and is a tax resident of Austria.

“I love my homeland Russia and strive for peace and unity only through my art,” the press service of the cultural institution quoted the Russian singer as saying.

The Berlin Opera named Netrebko one of the greatest voices of our time and a longtime partner. The singer assured the management of the opera that she did not plan to perform in Russia.

“Under the circumstances, we believe this artist should be given a chance and not be hidden from the public,” the statement said. Anna Netrebko’s performance in Macbeth is scheduled for 15 September.
