Journalist Alexey Pivovarov (declared a foreign agent by the Ministry of Justice of the Russian Federation) reported on Telegram that the authors who made reports and issues of the “Context” section on the YouTube channel of his project “Editorial”, created their own channel on the video hosting site. He stated that the channel is also called “Context”; it will publish issues in the format of the “Editorial” section of the same name and other genres of storytelling, analysis and reporting.

Mr. Pivovarov (declared a foreign agent) emphasized that he would have nothing to do with the new YouTube channel and that he remained on the “Editorial” channel “almost in splendid isolation.” “I will do what I have enough money for. In the end, I don’t know how to do anything else, but what I can do seems to work out well,” the journalist added. He also posted links to Editorial pages on content monetization services Boosty and Patreon.

March 2 Alexey Pivovarov (declared a foreign agent) reported, that he fired a significant part of the team of his “Editorial” project, since he could no longer pay salaries. The decision was made due to the law prohibiting advertising with foreign agents. He will transfer the rights to the team’s Telegram channel to the editors. The “Editorial” channel on YouTube has more than 4 million subscribers, on Telegram – more than 1 million. The Ministry of Justice added Alexey Pivovarov to the list of foreign agents in June 2022.

February 28 State Duma accepted in the third reading the law on a complete ban on advertising on all information resources of foreign agents, as well as advertising of such resources. The ban applies to all platforms: websites, blogs and social networks. Because of this, the closure of his project on YouTube is already announced journalist and TV presenter Katerina Gordeeva (declared a foreign agent).
