“Gazprom” intends to seek repayment of the debt for the gas supplied to Moldova “by all possible means.” The Russian company announced this on September 6 in response to the proposal of the Moldovan authorities to write off $700 million of debt.
Gazprom categorically disagrees with the statements of the Moldovan side,” the release says.
Earlier, on September 6, the Ministry of Energy of Moldova reported that the government of the republic, following the results of an audit of Moldovagaz’s debt to Gazprom, considers it expedient to pay only $8.6 million out of a total debt of $709 million and offers Gazprom to write off the rest of the amount. Why such an amount is proposed for payment, the Ministry of Energy does not explain.
