The authorities of Kuzbass announced the non-fulfillment of the plan for loading coal to the east by 15%

For 11 months of 2022, 42.8 million tons of coal were exported from the Kemerovo region by rail in an easterly direction, a representative of the government of Kuzbass told Vedomosti. He clarified that this is 15% below the plan and 10% less than the volume of coal exports for the same period last year. The same volume – “somewhere around 42.8 million tons in 11 months” – was quoted on December 12 in a speech at a round table in the Federation Council by the senator from the region Alexei Sinitsyn. But at the same time, according to the Ministry of Coal Industry of the region, exactly the same amount of coal – 42.8 million tons – was sent to the east in January-October.

Kuzbass is the largest coal mining region in Russia. According to the list of instructions of President Vladimir Putin dated March 2021, the volume of coal export from Kuzbass to the east by 2024 should increase by 30% compared to 2020, when 55.8 million tons were shipped from the region in this direction. In addition, In December 2021, the President agreed with the proposal to “secure as a priority” for the current year the export of 18 million tons of coal to the East from Khakassia and Buryatia (9 million tons from each republic, Khakassia’s quota includes 0.4 million tons of coal supplies from Tuva), RBC wrote in January.
