The agreement on the transfer of the “Trinity” to the Lavra in Sergiev Posad was concluded for 49 years

Agreement on the transfer of the icon “Trinity” by Andrey Rublev to the Trinity-Sergius Lavra, signed July 12, concluded for 49 years with the possibility of extension. This was announced by the head of the legal department of the Moscow Patriarchate, Abbess Xenia (Oksana Chernega).

“The contract was concluded for 49 years. Its prolongation is provided for by the relevant order of the Ministry of Culture on the approval of the standard form of such an agreement. Therefore, in fact, the contract will be extended after the expiration of the term, ”said TASS Abbess Xenia. Icon insurance will be provided at the expense of “raised funds”.

She clarified that, according to the agreement signed by Patriarch Kirill and Minister of Culture Olga Lyubimova, the responsibility for the icon is shared between the two parties as its copyright holders. Despite the transfer of the “Trinity” to the gratuitous use of the Trinity-Sergius Lavra, it remains in the “operational management of the Tretyakov Gallery”, where the icon has been kept since 1929.

Now the “Trinity” is in the Cathedral of Christ the Savior and will remain there until July 18. The restoration center named after Grabar reported “Interfax”that may receive an icon next week. Until the end of July, a meeting of the restoration committee is expected, at which decisions will be made on the necessary measures to restore and protect the icon.
