The cause of the accident at the LUKOIL oil refinery Nizhegorodnefteorgsintez in Kstovo, Nizhny Novgorod region, was the breakdown of a part on the compressor. This was reported by Rostechnadzor. Due to the breakdown of refineries in Russia, the production of motor gasoline decreased.
“It was established that on January 4, 2024, at the catalytic cracking unit No. 1 of Lukoil-Nizhegorodnefteorgsintez LLC, the emergency automatic protection system (EPS) was activated. As a result, the technological process was stopped. The reason for the activation of the ESD system was a mechanical malfunction of a compressor part,” Rostechnadzor reported. The reasons for the failure of the part are being clarified. The company is currently repairing the refinery.
January 12 LUKOIL reported, which temporarily stopped the operation of a process unit at a refinery in the Nizhny Novgorod region. Due to an accident happened reduction in the production of motor gasoline. The Ministry of Energy promised to prevent fuel shortages due to the accident. According to sources “Kommersant”, the accident occurred due to the breakdown of foreign compressor equipment – it cannot be replaced in the near future due to sanctions.
LUKOIL-Nizhegorodnefteorgsintez is one of the largest Russian oil refineries. Its refining capacity is 17 million tons of oil per year. Produces more than 50 types of products: automobile, aviation and diesel fuels, petroleum bitumen.
