The abolition of culture cracked: a book of Russian plays was published in Catalonia

The next step in cultural exchange could be performances by Russian authors on the Barcelona stage

In the capital of Catalonia these days a book of plays by Russian authors has been published. The event became a logical continuation of the joint project of GITIS and the National Theater Institute of Barcelona. A year earlier, the works of five Catalan playwrights were published in Moscow – and now it’s the turn of the Russians.

It is known that the publication includes plays by Leonid Zorin, Alexander Zheleztsov, Andrey Vishnevsky, Evgeny Kazachkov, Vadim Levanov, Elena Isaeva and Olga Mikhailova, and the compiler was the rector of the Russian Institute of Theater Arts Grigory Zaslavsky.

It is important to emphasize that the concept of the book reflects the desire to show different generations of Russian drama – from the classics (Levanov, Zorin, who are no longer with us) to young talents.

Now there is reason to hope that the repertoire of theaters in Catalonia will expand due to productions based on the works of authors from Russia. And the fact that all this is happening in the conditions of the “abolition of Russian culture” gives the undertaking additional significance.
