The 45th Moscow International Film Festival starts tomorrow

It will run for a week and end on April 27th. Sixty countries presented their paintings in a variety of programs.

There are two Russian films in the main competition – “First Love” by Svetlana Proskurina and “14+: Continuation” by Andrey Zaitsev. Other contenders for the Golden George award include Fragile Flowers in the Stream of Days (Japan), Smell of Sin (Bangladesh), Dead Man’s Bride (Romania, France), Paradise Lost (China), Path to Success” (Argentina), “Trace of the Beast” (Serbia), “Those Who Below” (Bolivia, Brazil, Argentina, Colombia, Uruguay), “Three Brothers” (Argentina, Chile), “Fi 1.618” (Bulgaria, Canada ) and Black Moon (Mexico).

The International Jury will be headed by Indian cinematographer Rahul Ravel, and artists Alexei Guskov, Svetlana Ivanova, Samal Eslyamova and director Siro Guerra will assist him in judging.

The traditionally strong section of non-fiction films this year will be represented by Russian films “Fathers”, “Vladimir Central”, “Let Me Win”, and foreign works: “La Singla” (Spain, Germany), “Anna and the Egyptian Doctor” (Israel) , “The House of Mother Shaku” (Iran) and “The Apparition at the Shaolin Temple” (China).

At a press conference preceding the festival, the chairman of the selection committee, Ivan Kudryavtsev, noted that the films that are in the competition this year began to be shot at the beginning of the pandemic.

“Being isolated with their children and relatives,” Ivan Kudryavtsev said, “filmmakers realized that there was a strong gap between different generations, it was necessary to build bridges, find a common language. We even formed a separate out-of-competition program called “A Difficult Age” that specifically focuses on this issue. But in general, this theme can be traced from the opening film to the main competition and out-of-competition programs.

The Russian Premieres competition focuses on the problems of teenagers (Ada by Stanislav Svetlov). This selection also includes “The Edge of the Broken Moon” by Svetlana Samoshina and “Tin Head” by Ivan Kapitonov, the drama “Montevideo Unit” by Tatyana Lyutaeva with Alexei Serebryakov in the title role, Stasia Venkova’s tape “Secret Attraction” about a student of the acting department, the war film “Pardon » Ainura Askarova, based on the story of the same name by Mustai Karim, and the psychological thriller “Fog” by Natalia Gugueva about the mysterious disappearance of a married couple at the northern weather station. The jury in this competition is represented by Alexei Uchitel, screenwriter Andrei Zolotarev and actress Anna Snatkina.

The serial section will delight you with episodes of the third season of “Peace! Friendship! Gum!”, the detective thriller “Cat” about the search for missing children, the comedy project “RAIcenter” with Kristina Asmus and Ivan Dobronravov, the project “Save the only son” by Nikolai Khomeriki and “I’m leaving beautifully”, where Vladimir Yaglych, who plays the main role, will turn from a negligent opera before our eyes into a fearless hero.

And the 45th MIFF will open with a new work by Boris Khlebnikov “Bullfinch”.

The festival will close with the Spanish film 42 Seconds about the Olympic Summer Games in Barcelona.
