Telegram messenger for the first time got into the top 3 services with the largest amount of traffic in Russia, said Vedomosti Beeline representative. Representatives of MegaFon and MTS provided similar data.

According to Beeline, the messenger lost its leadership in terms of traffic to YouTube and VK. As the operator’s representative clarified, Telegram traffic in the operator’s network has been growing since the beginning of the year “with pronounced event bursts,” and traffic growth was recorded, in particular, after the launch of stories in July. According to Beeline, last month Telegram traffic in the operator’s network grew 1.4 times, YouTube fell by 16%, VK grew by 10%.

The three leaders according to MegaFon for July also include YouTube (19.3% of the volume of traffic consumed), VKontakte (11.1%) and Telegram (8%). “If in July, compared to June, the increase in traffic consumption by subscribers amounted to 2%, then since the beginning of the year, the figure has already reached 37%,” a company representative said.

MTS said that in July they did not observe “an abnormal increase in traffic in Telegram”, but the messenger “together with VK and YouTube is in the top 3 popular services among subscribers.” A Tele2 representative said that Telegram users are increasing their traffic consumption, but the messenger has not yet reached the third place, which is now occupied by TikTok.

In March 2023, the daily Telegram audience in Russia overtook the YouTube audience for the first time. In July, the indicator of the average daily coverage of messenger users in Russia overtook that of VKontakte, reported the day before in Mediascope. According to the company, over the previous month, the average daily audience of Telegram grew from 51.9 million to 54.3 million people, VKontakte – from 52.1 million to 52.6 million people.
