Telegram faces a fine of 90,000 rubles for refusing to localize data

In relation to the Telegram messenger, a protocol was drawn up for failure to comply with the legislation on clarifying the personal data of users on time, the maximum fine for this is 90,000 rubles. About it reported “RIA Novosti” with reference to the press service of the court.
With respect to Telegram, there was previously drawn up protocol on repeated violation of the law in the field of localization of personal data of Russian users on the territory of Russia (part 9 of article 13.11 of the Code of Administrative Offenses of the Russian Federation). The press service of the court clarified that a blot was made in the file cabinet. This article provides for a fine of 6 to 18 million rubles. The court has never reported that Telegram was fined for refusing to localize personal data.
According to the law on personal data of 2015, companies are required to store the data of Russians in databases located on the territory of Russia. In case of violation of the law under this article, the service may be blocked. In particular, in November 2016, the social network of business contacts LinkedIn refused to comply with the requirement and was included in the register of violators of the law on personal data. In December 2019, Russian President Vladimir Putin signed a law imposing fines for this offense.
