Telegram and Facebook paid off all fines in enforcement proceedings in Russia

The social network Facebook (owned by Meta, which is recognized as extremist in the Russian Federation and banned) and the Telegram messenger have paid off all court fines in Russia for enforcement proceedings, said “RIA News” Head of the Federal Bailiff Service Dmitry Aristov on the sidelines of the St. Petersburg International Legal Forum.
“I can also assure you that the service is working on the enforcement of fines imposed on international companies for violating Russian law,” Mr. Aristov added.
In December 2021, for repeated failure to remove prohibited information, a Russian court imposed on the Meta company, a negotiable fine of 1.9 billion rubles. In February 2022, Facebook blocked the pages of several Russian state media outlets amid the Russian military operation in Ukraine. Roskomnadzor blocked Facebook and Instagram, and the Tverskoy Court of Moscow acknowledged Meta is an extremist organization. Later Meta was included to the list of extremists and terrorists of Rosfinmonitoring.
In February 2022 Telegram paid fines in three enforcement proceedings totaling RUB 11 million. Then the messenger was also fined for repeatedly not deleting prohibited information. In August last year, an administrative offense report was drawn up against the messenger for refusing to remove content prohibited in Russia. Messenger fined for 4 million rubles.
