Telecom operators will not be allowed to uncontrollably increase tariffs above the inflation rate, Russian Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Chernyshenko assured. According to him, the Federal Antimonopoly Service ensures that prices are reasonable.

“No one, of course, will allow operators to profit from our people and increase tariffs uncontrollably… In general, I think there shouldn’t be any strong jumps,” Mr. Chernyshenko said in an interview with RIA Novosti.

He clarified that over the past ten years, operators began to invest in the creation of infrastructure and equipment, which is why they could not increase profits “at least in accordance with the rate of inflation.” The Deputy Prime Minister added that there is also a focus on the development of Russian equipment for all communication systems.

“Now we understand that we must be able to do all this independently for the sake of our technological sovereignty, and now a big burden will be on the communications industry to create new generation networks,” explained Dmitry Chernyshenko.

In early December, the government approved the Communications Industry Development Strategy until 2035. By this date, operators must 100% replace foreign equipment with domestic equipment and implement FSB-certified cryptographic protection. The authorities admitted that the pace of development of mobile networks in the Russian Federation does not correspond to the world, including due to a shortage of frequencies, but abandoned the idea of dynamic access to them, so as not to complicate the work of intelligence services.
