Tbilisi says goodbye to Vakhtang Kikabidze

Farewell ceremony for actor, director and singer Vakhtang Kikabidze is taking place in the concert hall of the Tbilisi Philharmonic. He died January 15 at the age of 84.
As transmits TASS, the farewell ceremony is attended by official delegations from Armenia and Azerbaijan, as well as the Minister of Culture of Ukraine Oleksandr Tkachenko. The Philharmonic was visited by artists, politicians and fans of the artist. Vakhtang Kikabidze will be buried at the Veriysky cemetery next to his family.
The producer of the artist Rati Abzianidze reported that Mr. Kikabidze died in a clinic in Tbilisi. He stayed there for several weeks until his death.
Vakhtang Kikabidze began work at the Tbilisi Philharmonic in 1959. In 1966, he made his film debut, starred in the films “Meeting in the Mountains”, “Do not Cry!”, “Melodies of the Veriysky Quarter”, “Mimino”. In 2020, Vakhtang Kikabidze was elected to the Georgian Parliament from the United National Movement party of ex-President Mikheil Saakashvili.
From the early 1980s until 2008, Mr. Kikabidze lived in Russia and performed at solo concerts. Since 2008, he stopped giving concerts in Russian cities. This happened after the start of the conflict between Russia and Georgia.
